Everton sack Dyche as Friedkin Group act after dismal league run

Sean Dyche has been sacked by Everton just hours before their FA Cup third-round clash with Peterborough United.

The 53-year-old departs the Toffees following a run of just one win in 11 games, while his side failed to score in eight of their last 10 outings.

Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Bournemouth, their eighth Premier League loss of the season, proved the final straw for Dyche, with Everton failing to register a single shot on target.

That left the Toffees 16th in the table and just one point above the relegation zone, while their tally of just 15 goals this term is only better than bottom side Southampton (12).

Dyche, who won 26 of his 84 matches in charge, succeeded Frank Lampard in January 2023, and guided Everton to Premier League safety on the final day of that season.

The former Burnley boss also steered the club clear of danger last term, despite having eight points deducted for two separate breaches of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, Dyche's fortunes did not improve this season, with his side failing to score in a league-high 11 different games, just one fewer than they drew a blank in during the entire 2023-24 campaign (12).

Meanwhile, their 18.3 expected goals is the lowest in the division, while only Wolves, Ipswich Town and Leicester City have had fewer touches in the opposition’s box than Everton’s 388.

Dyche's 30.95 win percentage is also the lowest of any of the club's he has previously managed (Watford - 34.69% and Burnley - 35.06%).

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on a temporary basis, including Thursday's match against Peterborough.
