Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) have announced the departure of sports director Alistair Edwards.

The 49-year-old, who joined the Johor club last year after serving as Real Mulia's technical director, often acted as the official spokesperson for the club and oversaw player transfers.

No official reason was given for his sudden departure.

"We would like to thank Alistair Edwards for his contributions during his tenure at JDT as Sports Director," read a statement shared on JDT's official Facebook page on Friday.

"We wish him all the best in his future undertakings."

At the same time, the club announced former star Luciano Figueroa as his replacement.

The retired Argentine forward played for the Southern Tigers between 2014 and 2015, helping them win two Malaysian Super League titles and the 2015 AFC Cup.

*UPDATE*
JDT confirmed on September 9 that Edwards has been appointed as technical director and will oversee the club's development and grassroots football programmes.
