DeAndre Yedlin injures knee in Premier League season opener
DeAndre Yedlin, a U.S. Men's National team defender, injured his knee during Newcastle's Premier League opener on Saturday.
Yedlin is in his third season with the team, which faced Tottenham Hotspur F.C. The 25-year-old went down while challenging for the ball in the second half. Before he limped off the field, Yedlin received treatment on the pitch.
It's too early to tell the extent of Yedlin's injury.
"It is still too soon to know for sure," Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said, via ESPN. "There is a problem with his knee, but we need to wait. The doctor has to assess him properly."
Yedlin has spent the last five years as a member of the USMNT, racking up 52 career appearances. He's a strong presence for the U.S.'s backfield, and recently started a friendly in June against Ireland and then came in as a substitute against France.
