Malaysian archer Khairul Anuar Mohamad bagged shoot-off wins in his men's individual event at the 2020 Olympic Games on Wednesday to progress to the last 16.

The 2019 World Championships runner-up, whose best Olympic result was reaching the quarter-finals in 2012, beat Finland's Antti Vikstrom in his first elimination match before taking down China's Wang Dapeng in the next round.

Against his Finnish opponent, Khairul looked down and out as he trailed 1-5 after three sets, but he made a stunning comeback in the remaining two sets to force a shoot-off, which saw him hitting a bullseye.

He was in more control in his Round of 32 match but slipped up in the final set to head into another shoot-off.

Wang shot first and hit a nine-pointer, while Khairul remained composed to hit another bullseye to progress to Saturday's Round of 16, where he is likely to face two-time gold medalist Kim Woojin from South Korea.
