Malaysia's very own Bukit Jalil National Stadium scooped the Stadium of the Year award at the recently concluded World Stadium Congress Awards 2018.

The 87,411-capacity stadium saw off competition from France-based stadiums U Arena, Stade de France and Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux to take home the honour.

"We are very honoured to announce that the glorious National Stadium has won the Stadium of the Year (Existing) Award at the World Stadium Congress Awards 2018 that took place from 7-9 May 2018 at the Amsterdam Arena," read a statement published on the KL Sports City's Facebook page.

"Such a great news that shows the dedication and determination of everyone involved. A pat on the back!"

Now part of the KL Sports City, the stadium underwent a major renovation last year, which was completed in time for the 2017 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.

Opened in 1998, it hosted various tournaments and music concerts over the years.
