Bronze confident Chelsea can give Bompastor more next season

Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 through Bronze's header on Wednesday, a result that meant they secured the title with two games to spare after Arsenal lost 5-2 at Aston Villa earlier in the day.

It is the Blues' sixth straight WSL crown, and they are still eyeing an unbeaten campaign in the competition.

Wednesday's win set a record for the most consecutive games unbeaten in a single WSL season (20), and victories in their remaining matches against Tottenham and Liverpool would see them break their own WSL points record (58, set in 2022-23, currently on 54).

Chelsea also won the League Cup in March and will reconvene with United for the FA Cup final on May 18, though their Champions League campaign came crashing to a halt with an 8-2 aggregate defeat to Barcelona in the semi-finals last week.

Though Bronze is content with the Blues' domestic efforts, she knows improvements in Europe must be their aim for next term.

The full-back told Sky Sports: "We have had an up and down season, although the results probably don't show that.

"It was difficult for Sonia to come in and build something while not trying to take away from the legacy that Chelsea has always had.

"We have had new signings come in too. Next season we can push on and improve a lot more.

"The second half of the season we have not been at our best. Sonia has done well so far but she wants a lot more from us. I think we can give it her."

Chelsea have suffered semi-final exits at the hands of Barcelona in three straight Champions League campaigns, also losing to them in the 2021 final under Emma Hayes.

"It's hard to focus on so many competitions," Bronze continued. "We have always said that. We have done fantastically well to keep ourselves in all of them close to the end.

"It was nice to come here to celebrate a win, the title, and move forward and past the disappointment of the weekend."

Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton echoed those sentiments, telling BBC Sport: "The tie was not the face of Chelsea that we want to show everyone.

"You could see that we weren't ourselves and we did not play as a team. We didn't get through to the final. That is an aim of ours next season, let's be honest, we want to beat Barca.

"To come here today and win the WSL with two games to spare shows the character and resilience of this team."

Despite their European disappointment, Chelsea could complete the domestic treble for just the second time, having done so in 2020-21, and Bronze is relishing that challenge.

Bronze said: "Yes, definitely. The exciting thing is that it is against United as well. They are a tough team, they fought hard tonight and are still fighting for things in the league as well.
