Ferran Torres is out for the foreseeable future with a calf injury he sustained in Barcelona's 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Torres was a second-half substitute in Saturday's match, which Barca dominated but ultimately lost, with Alexander Sorloth netting a last-gasp winner for Atleti, who moved three points clear of the Blaugrana at the top of LaLiga.

The Spain forward, however, suffered a calf problem, which Barca confirmed on Tuesday.

A club statement did not put a timeline on Torres' return, with Barca next in action in the Copa del Rey on January 4.

Torres, who joined Barca from Manchester City in January 2022, has recorded five goals and two assists in 16 matches so far this season.

Ferran Torres ended Saturday’s game with a muscle issue. As the problem has not gone away, the player today underwent magnetic resonance and a small injury to his soleus has been detected, meaning he will be unavailable until the injury has healed. pic.twitter.com/1y8dxjTfg8

Barca are going through a terrible run of form that has seen them relinquish their lead in LaLiga to Atleti.

They have won just one of their last six LaLiga matches, and have now suffered home losses to Atleti, Leganes and Las Palmas.
