National women doubles shuttler Pearly Tan has apologized for not being able to join the national Uber Cup squad after a back injury derailed her participation.
“It breaks my heart to say that I won’t be able to join the Uber Cup this time. It hurts so much for not being able to stand beside my teammates and go through this journey together. I’m truly sorry that I can’t be there to fight with you all.

“I promise I will do everything I can to come back stronger. For now, all I wish for is a healthy body to return to the court again,” Tan said in an emotional social media posting.
Her partner M.Thinaah gave her word of encouragement, saying “Nothing is more important than health, body and mind. Take this time to heal and come back stronger,” said Thinaah.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia had earlier confirmed Tan’s withdrawal due to her injury.
Tan’s absence means the national team are forced into a doubles reshuffle, with Thinaah now will be paired with another shuttler.
Ong Xin Yee, Carmen Ting, Low Zi Yu and Noraqilah Maisarah are the other national women’s doubles shuttlers in the squad.
It remains to be seen if the BAM will call up a replacement for Tan.
Malaysia are in Group B of the Uber Cup alongside Japan, Turkiye and South Africa.
